Dragon Eggs

For this project we made dragon eggs! This project was fun and really neat. It was based from the book "The Egg" by MP Robertson. For this project we used clay and molded it around a plastic egg and then we painted our egg. We also got to make a design however we wanted on the clay and then we got to add some jewels to the egg to make it pretty!! Also part of the rubric was to name our egg and I named by egg Daisy Delilah!

An extension activity would be to continue on with the dragon theme and make their dragon. The students already named the egg so why not make the dragon that hatches out of it! So I would have my students make a dragon out of clay and they would be able to paint it and make scales and designs however they wanted!

Name Graffiti

For this art project we did name graffiti. We had to display are name 10 times anywhere on our paper and make sure that it over lapped 5 times in order to make it look abstract. We also talked about color schemes. In the lesson she went over many different color schemes and we had to use one color scheme in our project. I liked this project because it gave the children total freedom over how they could make their graffiti. I used the two symbols a heart and waves because I love my family and the waves are for the water because swimming is a huge part of my life.

An extension activity could be for the student so use graffiti in another subject. Like using it in social studies when they are talking about a certain state or country or etc. They could use graffiti to describe the state and have pictures and words and make it look cool and however their mind decides.

Mother's Day Flowers

In this project we did an arts and crafts project connect to science. We learned about the different parts of the flower and then we made the flowers. I really liked how she connected the flower parts to the art project. Also this project is for mother's day and its such a cute idea!

An extension activity would be to have the students label the parts of the flower with notes. This could be used as a study guide for the students if they were to have a test of over the parts of the flower. I think it would be a fun idea because it is a different way to study!

Cherry Blossom Scroll

In this project we did a cherry blossom tree with paint and a straw! This project was so much fun and so creative. I really liked how this project turned out. This project really shows the child's creativity because they have full control over how they want their project to turn out!

An extension activity could be the students need to write a story about their cherry blossom tree and where it came from. Because in the lesson the tree was a gift to the U.S. as a sign of friendship. So I would have my students create a story about their cherry blossom tree!

Mexican Folk Art

This was my lesson! It was Mexican Folk Art, where the students learned about how metal embossing worked and how they used it in their artwork. I had the students make their own symbol that meant something to them just like the mexican folk art has symbols that mean things to them. Then I had the students write why their symbol is important to them.

An extension activity would be to learn more about the Mexican Culture in social studies. The students would need to come up with a presentation any way they want to present the information they have learned about the Mexican culture. They could do a powerpoint, a skit, a paper, a poster, or any other kind of way to present. This project would be pretty open ended just as long as they present the important information about the Mexican culture.

Water Lilly Flower

In this project we made a water lilly with a flower on the lilly! This project was fun to work with because we got to make it our own personal way and add our own touch to it. We used tissue paper and glue in order to make the flower. My flower has three colors and is in a pattern.

An extension activity could be to learn more about water lillies and what their purpose is, and how they form? I don't know if there is a certain reason to them but I do think it would be cool to learn about it if there was. And if we did this lesson it would be science based.

Printmaking

For this art project we did printmaking. This was a fun project and interesting and I have never done something like this before. We had to draw on styrofoam rectangles and then we had to roll pain onto the pattern and then press it down onto the paper. It was interesting to see how it transferred over onto the construction paper. I do think the it had its downfalls though because sometimes it didn't work! However it was a fun project!

An extension activity could be to learn about the seasons. The students could write on the back of their projects some characteristics of the different season. By writing the characteristics the students will know what to expect in each season.
