Dot Day Project

Dot Day

This project was taken from the idea of a Dot Day book. The book is about a child who thinks they cannot draw. So the teacher makes the student just try, and the student makes a dot. The teacher then has the student sign the artwork with their name. When the student comes to class the next day their picture is framed and hung above the teachers desk!

This book portrays the idea of anyone can be an artist. So for this project we got to make our own design on a coffee filter. We could use anything we wanted. I used water color paints, crayons, oil pastels, water color pencils you could use anything. This gives the kids the freedom to do what they want and give them confidence in the world of art! I really like this idea and I would even incorporate it into my daily classroom to have the students use their creativity and imagination! :)

An extension activity of this could be having the children just experiment with all kinds of art supplies. Give them a project where they can do absolutely whatever they want. By doing this you will be able to see their creative side and then you can see what they are actually capable of doing.

Elements & Principles of Art

For this art project we had to take pictures of the Elements and Principles of art. This project was fun and it was a chance to be creative and find things that had art in them, that you would maybe not necessarily consider to be art.

This picture is and example of lines. There are lines everywhere in this bad. There are straight lines, horizontal lines, vertical lines, and even curved lines. I thought this was a great example of line because it gives a lot of examples of the different kinds of lines that you can have.

This next picture is an example of value. Value is the change in color of an object or a piece of artwork. This candle represents value so well. The color at the top of the candle is lighter and it eventually gets darker, and that is what value is. However it could also go the other way as well dark to light either way it shows value.

In this picture it shows symmetry. The image is the same on both sides. It goes pink ball, teal ball and pink ball again. I was able to make this picture on my own with objects that I had around my house. I thought this showed an easy concept of symmetry. When you look at this picture you could look at it as a scale and the teal ball is the middle of the scale and the two pink balls are at the ends of the scale and it is balanced! That is what symmetry is, balance.

This picture is a great example of emphasis. When you look at the picture the first thing your eye is drawn to is the yellow ball. It is the center of the picture and its color makes it stand out from the background. Emphasis of any picture is when an object has your attention when you first look at it.

In this picture it shows color, color is everywhere around us! I thought this blanket was a good way to show color because it uses many different colors together and it looks unified and not crazy. I think color in any project is a good thing it makes it more alive and fun to look at.
